Our time in Oaxaca was terrific. Zocala Square had an orchestra playing on Sunday afternoon that was wonderful. We enjoyed people watching from the cafes arou d the square and had a meal upstairs in one of the restaurants to get a bird's eye view and have a short reprieve from street vendors. I also enjoyed taking photos in the amazing market. We went to the museum next to the large cathedral on the hill and it was very worthwhile. Bring a jacket or sweater for the evening.
Santa Cruz Huatulco seemed like the perfect sized town. An easy walk everywhere or taxis and buses if you prefer. Cared for beaches and public areas, beautiful ocean and vistas. Try some fish or shrimp tacos! The seafood and pastas at Mare downtown Calle Gardenia are great. Nice breakfasts at Cafe Juanita Chahue marina. The traditional Oaxaca state foods should not be missed. Every state in Mexico has their own secrets. The long distance Central de Autobuses is on the north side of town and the int'l airport is 13 kms away.
Such an amazing cultural experience. The city is so colorful and beautiful. The food is out of this world....true culinary experience! I would highly recommend Oaxaca to any couple but I do not think it would recommend it to a family with smaller children.
Oaxaca City exceeded all expectations. We spent 2 weeks just walking around exploring this lovely city eating mostly street and market food (so clean) and meeting and befriending some of the most warm and delightful people we've encountered anywhere.
Oaxaca is the BEST city to visit in Mexico, with the best cheap street food!! If you love food, this is the cit, you can try so many different things, tlayudas, quesillo, chapulines, tamales, mole, etc. Also desserts like ice cream (try leche quemada with tina icream). Also there are incredible buildings like Santo Domingo. Also visit places around Oaxaca like Hierve El Agua, El Tule, Zaachila. If you like SURFING, Puerto Escondido, one of the top beaches in the WORLD for surf is in Oaxaca! Please, go to Oaxaca at least 5-7 days to really enjoy everything!!!
The town has beautiful buildings and architecture and some interesting markets to visit and look around. Templo de Santo Domingo was something else and the museum next door is worth looking at, all of the information is in Spanish however the building itself is worth looking at as it is huge. The town is fairly small and easy to walk around. The tourist areas have a lot of beggars and people trying to sell you things, we were advised that there is a lot of poverty in Oaxaca and some of the beggars were quite aggressive however no real issues. Monte Alban is definitely worth a visit while in Oaxaca, we did also visit Hieve de Agua (petrified falls) however it was dry season and there was no water running at all.
Oaxaca is amazing! So many lovely roof top cafes and bars, nice museums, beautiful cathedral - and just outside oaxaca there is Monte Albán and Hierve el Agua which are both worth the visit!!
A wonderful, beautiful city. Great place to walk around and very good food and interesting museums and beautiful architecture. People are friendly. There is little not to like in the central area of Oaxaca. Afternoons are hot in the sun (but dry). First time I was there in late February when it doesn't rain and second time in July when it does. I enjoyed weather both times. The storms are refreshing and they usually come and go pretty quickly. Mornings and evenings are great. I stayed for a month on my second visit and rented an apartment. I was surprised I could afford a decent apartment right in the center of town. I took a Spanish course and volunteered. Whether you do those things or just come as a tourist on vacation, Oaxaca is very easy to enjoy. Nice day trips to archaeological sites and villages too.
All the art is great in Oaxaca. I took a woodcut workshop in Zaachila, which was great! As a tourist I felt safe, but I didn't stray far from the busy streets. However, the huge Oaxaca logo in front of Santo Domingo is horrible! It ruins the experience of that area.
This is a hidden gem in corner of Oaxaca in Mexico. Really beautiful and authentic place with great beaches with amazing food, still unspoiled by tourism. It’s a small place but has everything you need for a relaxing, interesting and unique break and taste of ‘real’ Mexico beside the sea!
The hotel's location is the best: right in the heart of the city centre and within walking distance of everything around Oaxaca. The hotel's decoration theme is a mixture of modern and traditional. It's located in a typical Mexican colonial building and is decorated modernly and practically. We got vouchers for a mezcal tasting at the hotel bar at check-in, complimentary, which was well thought of. The staff in the hotel were very helpful and warm. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Overall we were very happy with the hotel.
The staff was very nice and accommodating, they moved our reservation one night as we had a major situation on the highway and could not arrive on the first day when we planned to arrive. We were very grateful for the hotel’s flexibility and not charging for the date change. The hotel is in the heart of Oaxaca city, one block from the cathedral. Rooms are comfortable, pleasant although most have windows to the central patio / corridors. Hence, the drapes always have to be pulled in. The central patio is very pleasant as well.
Our stay truly was a “ home away from home “.. We didn’t expect to have a cooked breakfast but we did & it was different every day . All the staff could not do enough for us… anything we needed 👍🏻DONE … would we stay again ..ABSOLUTELY… the shared interval courtyard was a large part of the reason we chose Hotel Casa Pereyra ! Oaxaca is a busy city & being in the centre this was a quiet , beautiful oasis. Thank you Cesar , Sarah, Yuan, Yuanita, Luisa & Dael for making our stay at Hotel Cass Pereyra so memorable !
We had a wonderful stay at Ayook. Very close to the centre of Oaxaca, within walking distance from all the main points. Very friendly staff, great breakfast and very clean facilities. The hotel has a traditional, stylish, and at the same time modern vibe. While it’s on a busy street, the moment you enter the hotel you find yourself in the serene patio where you can enjoy a coffee or read a book outside of your room. The only recommendation to the management would be to consider having a mini fridge in the room.
Beautiful decor, very friendly staff and a sort of hotel x hostel vibe with the shared spaces and kitchen area. This was perfect for a couple of nights in Oaxaca (would be great for more time too!). Central location just a few mins away from everything. I especially loved the fact nearly everything in the hotel was organic, eco, and made in Mexico. Dry toilets were a new experience for me, felt a little like using a cat litter box but surprisingly it was super easy and had no unpleasant smells after using
We stayed in a terrible Airbnb and had to make a quick change for the terrible noise and extreme temperature. We literally asked chat GPT to list the quiets hotels in Oaxaca Centro. This option came as the first one. We made the reservation using Booking and immediately called. Berenice was amazing, the hotel is super quiet and the experience changed our final day in Oaxaca.... Don't make the mistake we made, and stayed in a noisy location. Go with the best. Casa Antonieta, is the best.
I really enjoyed my stay in the hotel! From the early communication to the departure, the staff demonstrated great professionalism and genuine passion to provide the best experience to the guests. I’m a frequent traveler and have been to many places around the world - Hotel SIGLO XVII definitely stands among the best. Besides, it is perfectly located in the city and has great local charms. Very glad that I chose this beautiful and comfortable place for my first visit to Oaxaca.
My friend and I had a lovely stay in the Happy Express Hotel. The owners and staff were exceptionally friendly and obliging. There is a lovely atmosphere in the hotel. Our bedroom was cleaned every day with fresh towels provided. The showers were hot. The hotel is within a 10 - 15 minute walk of all the main attractions. There is a small kitchen area with drinking water, tea and coffee, a fridge and a microwave. Thank you for making our time in Oaxaca very comfortable.
Environmentally friendly, big room and very comfortable bed. We really enjoyed our stay at Agrado Hotel. The atmosphere is calm and stylish, the rooms are comfortable, and the staff are warm and welcoming, they even offered us a drink as welcome. Great location for exploring Oaxaca. Breakfast was very nice although very small and only 1 option. Do not miss the coffee van right in the corner outside the hotel (we had the best Mexican beans coffee in Mexico)!
The king size bed was by far the best we slept in while travelling Mexico! The bathroom was also absolutely gorgeous and the room was calm and quiet (we were on the top floor). The lady at the front desk was very helpful and helped us get laundry done - all the staff were very kind. Great location for Oaxaca - you could walk into Centro within 10 minutes. Very easy taxi from the bust station too. Wifi was good for working/checking emails.
The location was superb!! It was a 5-minute walk to all of the things we wanted to see in downtown Oaxaca, and the staff was so helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. They went above and beyond my expectations, from helping us coordinate taxis to and from the airport to the best places to get cash, and educating us on traditional food and experiences. I cannot recommend this place enough. It was so small and intimate, what a lovely hotel.
We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Con Corazon in Oaxaca! It’s an eco-friendly hotel with water dispensers available throughout, which we really appreciated. The room was spacious, very clean, and there was a convenient laundry service. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the city but still quiet, making it a little oasis in the middle of Oaxaca. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Overall, it was a top experience!
One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at! I loved everything about Viajero Oaxaca – the clean and comfy beds, the rooftop bar with its amazing vibes, and the overall atmosphere. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the people staying there made it really easy to meet new friends. A special shoutout to Daniel – he truly made our trip with his energy and the awesome day tour he organized. Highly recommended!
From the moment we walked in the staff was beyond friendly, the room was clean and the pool area was inviting. Hotel Casa de la Tiá Tere is a perfect spot to stay in when in Oaxaca. You are about a 10 min. walk to the city center where a majority of the sites and action is. The pool is refreshing after a long day of exploring or doing day trips in the area. I will stay here again if ever in the area again!
Hotel Casa Santo Origen is a beautifully designed hotel in a perfect setting with views over the valleys and across the mountains . A perfect place to relax and with easy access into the town of Oaxaca, although you will need to be driven there. Every one of the staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating and they made our stay a real pleasure. Our room was stunning and beautifully appointed .
The staff were fantastic and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, including helping me out finding emergency dental treatment (and driving me to it). The location was great; a couple of blocks out from the centre of Oaxaca which made it a little quieter from road traffic. The room was lovely and modern and the roof terrace was cute - also the barman made the best mezcalitas we tasted in Mexico!
Hotel room was large and very well appointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Location is excellent, a very short walk to main city squares, bars, restaurants etc… Big bonus is that this hotel provides parking if you drive, a lot of the downtown hotels do not and finding parking is next to impossible. I feel like I knocked it out of the park selecting this hotel for my stay in Oaxaca!!
This beautiful small hotel has everything you need for a relaxing stay. It was our first time in Mexico and we couldn’t have picked a better place to visit the Oaxaca coast for the first time. Everything is to a very high standard, from the rooms to the pool area to the delicious breakfasts, the staff are incredibly friendly. The view is epic and it is a short walk down in to town.
Oaxaca City
Azul Cielo became my favorite hostel in Mexico! It's a very nice and cosy hostel. Very social - lots of activities going on everyday. And the oaxacan dinner was the best of them all! Friendly staff, clean rooms, quiet location. I didn't feel unsafe there even walking in the dark. I recommend this hostel to everyone! And I hope to come back there someday too
Oaxaca City
Location was good, close to a market where one could find good value food easily. The room was nice. Oaxaca is a really nice city, I especially enjoyed the music from wedding celebrations with jazz bands and calenda dancers in the streets. There is a lot of positive atmosphere in the streets. There were a lot of lovely flowering trees in the city when I went.
