Although lots of local transportation, I walked most of the city from the Biopark to Colluseum to the castle to the Vatican City, the Trevee fountain to Spanish steps (steps disappointing as they closed the steps off due to a film production, so couldn't walk up them). Walk and you will see more of the real Rome. Wear good shoes as the cobbles can crucify your feet and drink plenty of water, there are many places to top your bottle up FOC from the local springs. The history is amazing and a pretty good night life. Just eat Italian, some of the best food in the world.

Overhwelming at first, but once you get used to the public transportation bus routes and metro lines, it was fairly easy to get around. While the tourist attractions are incredible and you don't want to miss them, I preferred some less touristy activities like a stroll through Borghese Gardens, local markets, the Pyramide and Non-Catholic Cemetery next door, and the Keates-Shelley House next to the Spanish Steps. I also loved that an ancient site like Ostia Antica was just a 45 minute train ride for the standard 1.50 Euro fare!
The crowds were absolutely horrendous though, even for early June.

We only booked 3 nights - we needed much longer. Rome is huge and so diverse so we only just scratched the surface with what we managed to squeeze in. It is such an vibrant and interesting city so we are excited to come back and explore more.

Rome is such an ancient city with so much History.
Rome is such an ancient city with so much History. I loved learning the history. However, that is not a place to visit during the summer, due to the heat, no AC in most places and Way Way too many visitors. It was difficult to enjoy the cites, while bumping into people in the heat. Before going to Rome we were in Paris and the transit system in Rome was very disappointing.

Rome, the Eternal City.
Rome, the Eternal City.
As Napoleon once said of Paris, Rome is well worth a mass.
Even the shortest visit fills you with a wealth of sensations that are hard to match in any other city in the world.
A 100% recommended destination… to return, and return, and return again.

It’s an amazing country and I liked Italy the best out of the 22 countries that I have visited so far. I loved Rome for its world famous and historical buildings , massive squares , lovely fountains, cobble stone streets, mind blowing churches and the way they are preserved till date! I really appreciate the care and importance the Government has shown towards the maintenance and upkeep of each and every monument. I am amazed by the Italian architect and the paintings, stunned and unable to comprehend the skills the Italian possessed to have erected these massive churches and mind blowing monuments.
Lastly, I heard it’s a capital of pick pocket in the local trains and buses so I avoided them to be on a safer side.

This hotel was my best stay in Italy. It was close to two metro lines and also to the Colosseum (you can literally go walking). The staff was very helpful, my room was large enough for me (individual traveller), every day when I returned the room was made up, everything was clean and they have elevators in case you don't want to use the stairs. The breakfast was simple but very good and I enjoyed very much to eat it every day. I do strongly recommend the hotel if you ever visit Rome.
This was the best hotel in Italy we have visited out of 7. Very clean, comfortable and with good vibe. Great outdoor swimming pool - we loved it after hot day. But the best was customer service. We have left a wallet and they helped us a lot and sent the wallet back. Location was good, not far from the metro station and when we used taxi from the city centre was not expensive. We had a very good time.
This hotel exceeded our expectations for Rome. We stayed in 12 hotels/farmstays over 4 weeks for our European trip (Holland, Italy, Paris) and this was one was the absolute best value. The bed was in the top 3, the room was very spacious for a major city hotel and the bathtub would have been amazing if it wasn't 36 degrees out. I was tempted to have an ice bath but I had no access to ice.
The hotel was in close proximity to Trastevere and the bus to the Rome Termini. The room was large compared to the hotels we have stayed in when in Italy. The rooftop breakfast area provided a great view toward the centre of Rome. Definitely a recommendation.
